Yesterday at the park, there were many families and my sport kites were a big hit, even without the tube tail. The children were polite and asked questions while the parents hovered nearby. Most of the adults know me by now, but I prefer to have the parents around when children are involved.
I was switching over to a heavier kite as the winds were picking up fairly quickly. So I put the nose of the Inner Space under the kite bag and started setting up the Opium. Most of the kids were in the 6 to 9 year old category and yet their conversation about the sport kites was quite intellectual.
Not sure of their names, so I will use names from the Mouseketeers.
Annette: Wow, how much did this kite cost?
Me: About $300.
Doreen: When I grow up, I'm going to be a scientist so I can buy a kite like this.
Cubby: We don't need anymore scientists, we have enough explosives already.
Me (thinking to myself): Don't laugh, don't laugh.
Doreen: Well, I could cure cancer or something.
Bobby: Why don't you just make a medicine that gets rid of pimples in 30 minutes? My sister would buy it.
While the conversation was humorous, I secretly hoped they would grow up to do all those things. Except the explosives, we do have enough explosives.
Kids are very cool.
