One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Usually the dog cocks his leg on my kite or kite bag and it's owner just ignores it, or pretends to be looking the other way.

How did you hook the flo tail kites together Huh Huh Huh

The guy on the bike has a serious problem.  His own Masculinity  Cry Cry ... He saw kite flying as an attack on his bike riding.  Here he is riding on the beach with Fat tires proving he's "The Man". Cool  Flying a kite is somewhat negative in his world. Lips sealed  He lets his dog run freely on the beach doing what ever it wants to do. Sad  He is clearly the Mayor  Cool of the beach especially to an older guy who has No intention  Grin of creating and conflict.

Bike seat makes his penis shrink up and go numb.   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

What he doesn't know is.... People around the world are seeing him act the fool towards one of our Kite Brothers like he is tough. Yet it's simply a Penis thing. My best guess is 'small'.  and now hundreds are laughing at my penis joke...

Wow, its not like you kicked his dog, just shoooed it away.

The world is full of obnoxious people and they seem drawn to dog ownership to demonstrate what big tough guys they are.
This is one of the reasons I very rarely fly these days -every time, I get unwanted attention from a dog. They're not strays, they always belong to some self entitled aggressive bigmouth.
Apparently its my fault.

I own a dog my self, he's only a little mutt but he doesn't chase kites. On the rare occasion he's with me while I'm flying he will bark at other dogs because he sees them as a threat to me and he's not often wrong.

I feel for you

Wow! I had a dog bite my kite the other day with less hostility than that from either party. Most people strolling such a beautiful beach would have way less aggression built up.

Absolutely. Like the old American Express commercial with Karl Malden, "Don't leave home without it!"

sure. California allows CCW's with a "permit" ... meaning, you have to ask for permission and then pay your government (about $300)

I watched the video a few times and each time had to just shake my head.  In fact it made me kind of sad.  I'd like to think that people like that guy are still in the minority but unfortunately I think their numbers are growing.  You can bet that this guy's behavior on the beach generalizes into other walks of life.  You have to wonder if he would have behaved that way had the flyer been his size and age.  Probably not.

Myself,I have been lucky in 20 years of kiteflying, no serious interaction with dogs and/or the owners. Knock on wood. I fly in a school park a block from my place and the area is frequently used by the neighbors to walk their dogs, but not many and not all the time. Worse comes to worse, I park my Rev.(or my BeamerV or my speedfoil3)in the Zenith and wait the pests out. Pray for wind....

I was saddened and surprised when I saw this video. I might expect something like this to happen where I live in New York... I thought we had the market cornered on BUTTHOLES like this. That being said, in almost 20 years of serious kite flying, I have NEVER had anything close to that happen to me. Maybe because I am younger and well over 6 foot tall, I'm not viewed as an easy target to sand kickers.
Wish I had been there to shove that guy's bike up his butt ! Jim's videos have been a great source of kiting info & entertainment, I've only written back and forth with him through the interweb, but feel like he's a friend who I haven't met yet. Grrrr....

Dang ....$300 ...what a bunch of bandits! Just for using your 2nd ammendment rights? It's muchh cheaper in PA. First 5 year was about $50 if I remember correctly & the renewal was only about $25 ...and good for another 5 years! Unfortunately the ONLY beaches near me are either Nazi anti-gun-rights states or don't have reciprical CCW agreements! I wish Congress would pass the all-states reciprical law but I fear they never will! Sad
