One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

I'm trying to follow the sixth sense STD build as my first built kite since it seems to be what people recommend for an all-around good kite, but all 'official' versions at least use 6mm structil for the upper spreader, and the STD non-pro version uses it almost everywhere.  Structil, as far as I can tell, is no longer available, and I don't know what current equivalent has similar characteristics.  Should I upgrade to the STD PRO version, and replace the one remaining specified 6mm structil on the upper spreader with generic .240" pultruded carbon tube, or what?  Or are there any updated framing layouts anywhere that use currently available materials?

I'm in the northeast US, if that is relevant for product availability.

I would certainly recommend the Pro-framing. In that version it is in my opinion (still) the best open source kite available.

A friend of mine framed his one first in 5PT's all around, but that had not the feeling as mine. He quickly upgraded to Nitro's.
A 6mm leading edge in the Sixth Sense makes no sense at all (my thinking!), so you have to call your kite a "Sixth".

For an upper spreader, any 6mm carbon rod is okay. Makes almost no difference there.

Yeah, i'm the friend with the 5pt mistake... Go for the nitro's.

On topic:
There's a shop in germany selling high modulus carbon tubes. Birger (Ulzburger Kites) used that in the End Of Line series. Feels very similiar to structil.

Not sure if i can post the link, but since non of the USA suppliers sell these rods i think it should be no problem:

He used this in the STD EOL leading edge: DPP CFK-Rohr (5,9 / 4,0) x 2000 mm.

Don't do 6mm all over. Spend the extra cash and it will be worth every penny.

Still my number one goto kite and what I now compare every other kite to. Personally not found anything i like more to fly.

My top spreader is just plain old 6mm carbon. I can't tell any difference.
