Flying spots in Fort Lauderdale, FL

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I'm heading down to Fort Lauderdale for a conference next week and I'm planning to bring a kite with me for downtime. Anyone know of good spots to fly? I'll be staying at the Bahia Mar Beach Resort (http://www.bahiamarhotel.com/).

Hopefully the beach next to the hotel will work, but if not, any other suggestions? I've got a bunch of free afternoons and evenings and I'd like to spend some time flying with nice coastal winds.

I havent flown in Ft Lauderdale beach in a couple of years,but when I did, I made sure to hit the beach in the late afternoon after the life guards go home as I fly power kites and seek to avoid being hassled by the powers-that-be and civilians ....in some spots the beach is rather narrow but in others suitably wide. I wound up flying on Fort Lauderdale Beach, right outside my hotel. There was a nice wide spot where the trees weren't too close. It didn't work out on Sunday since the beach was packed well into the evening, but I was able to fly several times during the week. Man, flying in smooth coastal wind is so much easier than rough inland wind! It made it a lot easier to practice what I'm working on, and more fun.

The lifeguards didn't hassle me and my sport kite one bit. I did run into a guy one evening who was learning to fly power kites one evening and gave him a couple of general tips on 2-line kites.
