One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

SUL
« on: November 19, 2018, 08:32 AM »

Im trying to find a substitute for my Ozone, the kite that flies before anything else in my bag, but also very well known by now. Iím looking for something different.  It that can still realistically fly in 2 to 4 mph with minimal pumping as the Ozone does.  A couple of questions.

The Ozone weights 159 grams, Iím trying  to find something with the same dimensions, a little short of 2mt, and around that weight with the same wind range 1.8 to 5mph. Past that range I have plenty of other kites.

My Benson SuperFly UL, is 232 grams with the weight, 213 without. Will fly under 3mph with a lot of pumping. Of course, not an SUL.

The SKD Seven ($438!) I was looking at, is 232 grams as well, although a little bigger than the SF weights the same but I can see it float effortlessly in video.

Any experience with the SKD 7?
Amy other high aspect ratio SUL I missed? Saw also the Nirvana WW. I wish benson would make a SUL SFly! Iím loving the ones I have.

Im not interested in indoor, or really small kites. Looking for 2mt and above.

Im not a big fan of LH sail design to be honest either beside the brutal price there too. But then weíre talking SUL. There will be blood.

Pro Dancer by Sky Burner Kites weighs under 150 grams and will fly when everything else commercially available is grounded. The other option is indoor kites.

I saw that, good price too, but looks very old school sail shape, similar
To the Ozone. And according to the videos I saw flies the same. Not a bad thing, I love how the Oz flies and the limited tricks I canít do with it, but I want to fly something different.

Ill second the prodancer, it will fly in next to nothing. you can coax an axle and some spins out of it but thats it
Lower then the sf ul I end up on a ds ul or talon ul for tricks. Might also consider a gem ul since you have a std, floaty spins.  I have some other rarer ones but would be tough to find
Lower then that i get out will sturdys slk chiropetra or prism's "bikini"

The ProDancer will fly in next to nothing its true - but thats all it has going for it, it is not trick kite.

A Gem UL is very chuckable but its more of a light than a proper UL and you already have the SF which is superior IMHO.

The Seven SUL is pretty great, the build quality/packaging/experience is Benson-esque and its a real looker.

Loved how my Pro Dancer flew. Under 2 or 3 mph I could never stay under the kite unless just flying. Can't move very fast. Replacing the Pro Dancer is getting tougher the more I research. The Air One 2 panel Arrow is what I keep going back to.Level One Amazing Outdoor is at the top also. Gusts here could really jack a predominately indoor kite up.Also like longer lines. That puts the Echo and Kaiju towards the bottom for me.Starting to not care about cost  Cry. More interested in getting a kite that fits what I THINK I need. Not really considering weight. Still don't fully understand the  mass to sail ratio/aspect yet. Will it trick 0 to 3 mph on 75' x 50# lines is my question. Really interested in what you decide and why.

Thanks! But I want something more ďnew schoolĒ otherwise Iíll just keep the Ozone. 540s and fades like nothing else. I already have 2 UL, the SuperFly and The SuperNova, the latter floats beautifully in 4mph.  And yes eventually Iíll get a Zero Glider too.

I have a few SUL's in my bag you can try out to at least see if they will fly like your thinking.  Even "new school" suls can be limited to old school tricks.
