I stopped at BestBuy last night and asked the sales people. No one seems to know if this is possible.

Well.... I did warn you. Welcome to being weird. It only hurts for a little bit. Let me know if you have a brand preference and/or other wishlist items for the machine and I will see if I can dig up a list for you. I was in a store when the sales person was trying to convince a customer that the proper way to scan a slide was to lay the bare slide on a vanilla flatbed scanner. I was glad I didn't have a mouthful of liquid. For some reason it is the rare salesperson that will say "I don't know" or "let me find that out for you" (doubly unforgivable as most electronic stores have a broadband connection.
There is one HP that says it 'will put pictures on a CD" but I think it refers to LightScribe
Lightscribe is a technology that allows an optical drive to "burn" an graphical image to the non-data side of an optical disk. Cute gimmick but it takes a loooooong time and on a lot of disks the image fades out with exposure to light. I guess you are alright if you work in the dark, but....
