One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

Odd to find the Retroline amongst the "new" kites  Shocked I wonder how many people have any recollection of the Silent Dart, let alone wish to fly one today.

But yes, the Chrome might actually be of interest  Wink

Mike.

I don't know, it might not be the trickiest kite in the lineup, but it sure is pretty. At least I think so, it would be worth some time to woosh around, and do some big fat side slides.
I haven't flown my 15+ year old kites in some time, but it is nice to just zoom around and make some noise once in a while...

Please keep in mind that these kites are scheduled for release in 2010 ... possibly appearing as late as April.  That said here are some prices (MSRP):

Yon: $150
Jam Session: $150
Breeze: $170
Shadow: $200
Silent Dart: $200
Tramontana: $220
Infinity: $230
Infinity Vent: $240
Chrome: $400

I'm just now making my way through the complete catalog.  More info later.

  Wow! 170.00 for a Breeze.
Anyone want a new one for .60 cents on the dollar let me know.
I just blew a wad on a new axe, and could use the bucks.

My early impression from manufacturers/distributors is that we will be seeing higher prices in the coming year.  Sad

Not really surprised.... as the guesstimates were that if they brought the padded HQ Bag back for 2010 it was going to be in the $160-$180 neighborhood.  Pricing on the Yon isn't actually that bad.

They seem logical to me. HQ has always been middle of the road.

Look at it another way, that's what a Jam Session cost in 1996...

$220 for a Tram? That's an OK price. Keep in mind they're not making that one by the thousands. It's for the ultrawierdo niche market that would rather buy a new old kite than a perfectly good used one.

Nice thing about that crowd is they put some money in my friend Steve's pocket. :-)

Remember the Euro down a little this week but it's still very, very high @ $1.43 ish. That's quite a premium on European imported kites.

On one level or another, haven't you described a large portion of the GWTW demographic?  Huh  Huh  Huh  True, some may fly their weirdo flag at night so as not to attract attention, but....

Reintroducing the Shadow is a smart move. I was shocked when they originally dropped it.

Jam Session: $150
BFK listed the then-new HQ Jam Session at $132 back in '96 (with video and airbrakes included).

On the one hand that's an impressively low rate of inflation but on the other.... anyone seriously considering this ?  Huh There are disappearingly few "old" kites that I think would truly make a genuine commercial prospect and the JS simply ain't one of them. Even the nostalgia for the first kite that you did a trick on, and for a lot of people it will be just that, is only going to go so far.

OTOH, the Jam is arguably the best selling kite that HQ has ever had in that particular segment of the market at any rate.

I'd be interested in seeing a Chrome.

I'd be interested in flying a Chrome.

My feeling is, if the Chrome is going to do any business on this side of the pond HQ is going to need to get some out there for fliers to try.

Hard sell at that price even then IMO unless it is amazing.

Not very good.

Amazing.
