Just got back from almost a week in Yuma, AZ. I vow never to complain about the Variable winds I fly in here at home!
Two things I learned down there is when they say variable
they mean variable
, the first two days wind blew from 0 - 25+ (it gets pretty scary while flying a UL), the fallowing days from 0 - 12, for 10 minutes it would blow around 6 to 7 and then no wind for 30 minutes or more, than 12 for five minutes than back to 0
The second thing I learned was not all Grass is good to fly on, this one field I was flying the grass was so tough it actually scraffed my leading edges, I then found it best to fly on Base Ball fields, the Grass was more forgiving to my Kites.
Most of the days I would have ready my UL, a couple of Std's and for the 0 wind time I would play around with the Aerobe. I averaged about 4 hrs per day trying to fly. I did meet on one of the days another (Kite Nut) but he didn't stay long, got frustrated with wind and him and his wife left the field for other adventures.
Thanks for looking,
