One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

I have a friend who is willing to sell me his Luna Moth and his Kestrel.  I would love to have these in my bag as I prefer the "old school" kites over the newer, trickier ones.  The problem is I have no idea what they are worth or what I should offer for them.  Neither does my friend know how to price them.  He has had them so long he does not remember what he paid for them.  Is there anyone here who can help?  I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you in advance.

First, you need to find out if the kites are made by "Go Fly A Kite" or by Joel Scholz.

If they are by Joel Scholz they will be "Sky Delight" kites and NOT the Joel Scholz Signature Series which was licensed to GFAK.

Assuming the kites are the Sky Delight version and in good condition, they might be in the $125 to $150 range. That is just my opinion. A few years ago, they would have gone for more, but the recession has really dampened kite values.

Hopefully, others will chime in.

Sounds about right for Sky Delights, $60-75 each.

agree on Chilese's comment...need to find out if they are Go Fly a Kite signature series or Joel's original Sky Delights....
then i would hesitate to put a price on them without seeing a picture of them (wear etc)

The Sky Delight UL Moth is more valuable that the standard, I've heard of them with a variety of frames and I've seen what was purported to be a UL, but in Nylon rather than poly. I think it was a reframe, but who knows.

I'd spend $150+ for a nice UL Moth. Depends of frame & color more than condition.

GFAK Moths are dime a dozen.

ezme6,

Actually, my price estimate was for each kite. Not both for one price.

Corey's Sky Delight Luna Moth UL...... I'd buy it from him for $150. It's in great shape and flies in surprisingly low winds. Nice flat sail for small breezes.

Anyone who would by a moth for $150 is a ultra kite geek.
