One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

We'll be leaving for South Padre in about 10 days.  We're driving from So Cal and it's a long road trip but it's a great place to fly and those Winter Texans are an appreciative audience.  Then there is Dirty Al's for shrimp...... oh myyyyy.   Had a great time there last year and looking forward to this year.   Hope the weather holds.  Be sure to stop by our territory and say "hi."

Dirty Al's for shrimp?  All of those hours at WSIKF and at Fairview Park, and you never once said anything about Dirty Al's for shrimp.

Now I'm really bummed about not being able to go this year.

Drive safely and give a wave as you pass Blythe.

Yeah, it's a long drive for me too (8 hours with the family... 7 hours if driving by myself)- this is the one event that I don't mind the long drive though.  It does eat into my vacation days...  this year we're leaving on Wednesday and going home on Monday.  Spending the day Thursday just being a tourist, and spending some time on the beach teaching friends to fly.  Friday is the Rev clinic and the indoor fly, and the festival Saturday and Sunday.  If you can make it up there early, it's worth it.  I know rooms are relatively inexpensive, decent rooms from $40-$50 (and how much time are you spending in a room, anyways?  Smiley )

Dagnabbit be sure and stop by and say hello if just to dispel the myth that SLK folks and sport kite folks don't talk to each other  Smiley
Given my moniker I don't think you'll have any trouble finding our territory.

For us, in round numbers, it's 1600 miles.  Since by the time we're in South Padre we have already traveled so far we've tried to find other events, festivals, fun flys, club meets in the general area we might attend.   Unfortunately So far we haven't come up with any. It's always a challenge to try and connect kiting events without stretches of time between that make in impractical.

How long will you be in the area?
