One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Yep, my understanding is Icarex is just a brand name, the fabric sold as PC-31 is the same sold through another channel without the right's to use the name Icarex.

The reason I was asking is that at looking at the site of one of our foremost USA boutique makers using P-31, I noticed that the pattern was in squares and not rectangles.  It seems that it was stated yesterday in the Swap Meet that Nylon patterns were in squares and Icarex in rectangles.......looks like it could go both ways, right?

thanks,
Jim

Icarex has used squares with doubled grids for quite awhile. Only the first versions of it used rectangular grids. Some of the other Polyester ripstop fabrics use rectangular grids, like Texlon & Ventex. Ripstop Nylon is usually in square grids that are smaller than the ones Icarex uses.

the PC31 stands for PolyCarbonate coated 31 gram/sq meter
I think that Icarex is a trademarked name, owned by Shanti.

I haven't seen rectangular scrim on any kites made in the last ten years at least.

Poly= big squares
Nylon= small squares

Beyond that it's hard to tell various fabrics apart in photos without a lot of experience.
