Welcome to the GWTW Forum.
Guests (non-registered users) can view the forum but are unable to post.  If you don't have anything to say then why would you bother to register?
One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Now I've finally figured out where all this angst is coming from. People have been dreaming, reading rumor sites, wishing for some uber-gizmo. Expectations. Gadget envy.

I haven't paid any attention to all that. The last time I even thought about an Apple tablet was 6 months ago and I just thought if they brought out an oversized iPod Touch it would be a good start. And they did.

People are way to wrapped up in this crap.

They'll be a Google Chrome / Android based alternative this year - I've not doubt it will be immeasurably more compelling.

-Frazer

I'm afraid the Google version may be strictly "Cloud" based like their upcoming OS and App's, useless unless your connected. I'm not excited about all my info & app's residing on somebody elses computer where I can only access them if I can find a hot spot. "Cloud" the new buzzword, "Pie in the sky" my definition  Cheesy

That would be nice but I live out in the sticks, not going to happen anytime time soon, it's only been a year since I was able to get off a 26.4 analog dial-up connection. And until there is some type of security written into the web itself this is a far too dangerous playground to trust everything to IMO.

Gadgets ... really I'm trying to unclutter my life. Now I need an iPad to carry along with my laptop, phone, GPS, reader, voice recorder, MP3 player, portable DVD player, camera, video cam, thumb dirive, card reader, along with half dozen chargers, a dozen cords, headphones & adapters. Then there's the writing pad & pencil for when none of those will do the job. It's no wonder we have to drive SUV's.

From all I've heard - once you actually pick this thing up and play with, you will want one.

I'm more than content with my 13" aluminum Macbook for now - its small, powerful, light, and just a joy to use.  My iPod Touch is close to 3 years old now, but still works like a charm.

I'm thinking this device is primarily for folks that may not even have a computer right now because they are too complex to setup, use, and maintain.  Kids are going to love this thing - and they are the users of the future.  The days of requiring a keyboard and mouse in order to effectively use a computer are numbered.

What utter rot.

Can you imagine actually *working* on a tablet ?

Tapping away all day on a piece of glass ?

Oh yes - that must be the very height of comfort and ergonomics.

I totally agree, but most people do not sit and type at a computer all day.

I think you'll find an increasing number of people do ... including the children you mention ... how long before little Peter and Jane are required to take their lessons on a laptop ? (Indeed, children in the "third world" are already doing so)

I'm not an Apple basher per se ... I'm using an iMac now (and its the bee knees) - but nevertheless I think this product offering blows.
