One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

picked one up at a moving sale, complete.  runs but has a bit of trouble backing up, when starting in reverse I hear a high pitched noise coming from the motor.  I was told that this is associated with the ESC ? The data I found says it has a 15T motor so would any brand motor with 15 turns work?  I have no intention of racing it, just use with the grand kids and maybe the kids next door.  I figure with the price of parts, perhaps an upgrade would be in order so we can keep playing with it. Found a brushless, programmable set up  by Assassin. thoughts or opinions welcome.

It may just be a loose gear or worn gears. If it is the motor, any brand 15t or higher motor should work but if the motor runs it's probably not the motor. If you switch to brushless beware they may have too much power for the rest of the drive train. You also need a matched brushless ESC and motor. You can't just use your current speed control with a brushless motor.

Nope, not the gears, the sound is definitely from  the motor.  I've been told it could be the ESC as well.  I wish I had some way of determining what the motor actually is as there are no numbers or labels on it anyplace.  I'll drag it to a hobby shop and let them guess.  I filed the old brushes down to reduce the area touching the commutator and ordered some new brushes. I got it running and it is quicker than the stuff I usually mess with. I gave it full throttle out of the driveway and collided with the tire on my truck so had order a new front shock tower and replace it.    From on-line info it seems the ESC is not the correct one so will look around for a decent replacement later on. Still has the buzz when it backs up so I try to keep it going forward as much as possible.  Picked up a Vision Peak 2 from the same guy and charged up all the old battery packs I have.  I will have some fun with it.. $25 for the car, batteries and radio, $10 for the charger and $17 for the front shock tower.  Not too bad.  I am impressed with the programmable brushless systems with the card and all.  Thanks for the info.

update:: got it kind of sorted out. Any 15T double wound motor will do if it fits the mounting plate. the current ESC is wrong but works and actually may be the source of the noise; something to do with switching speed. In the mean time it is fun.
