One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

When I look at Jaco fittings the sizes usually are 2 and 3 mm.   The 2 mm is shown as .08 inches and the 3 mm at .098 inches.  This is consistent at a number of sites I looked at.  Using my calculator 2 mm is .078 and 3 mm is .118.  It makes sense to me that the 3 mm size should be 50 percent larger than the 2 mm size.  So why is the 3 mm shown at .098?

Am I missing something here?

You could always measure a 2x4 piece of wood as a reference.  Cheesy

It's probably a hold-over from a time when true 3mm carbon was not generally available in the US, and the fitting's importer promoted it as being for .098 rods.

It will work with the .098, but it is a sloppy glue fit.  It is a very nice press fit with the now-available .118/3mm carbon rods.
