Kite Reels for the big ones

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

yep..that is a stratospool.....looks like the small version....so nice....

I have 2 different size spools for it. The photo has my small spool (I put about 400' of 500# line from Gomberg) on it and I have a bigger spool that I put my 750# line on.(I put about 250' on that spool)  - it is sweet.

i was not aware that you could pop the spool off of the stratospool! very neat to know!!!!
there were two frame sizes for them....the big one was almost 4' long as i recall.....
there is enough info to build your own now since the maker is no longer producing them...

according to that page there was actually 3 sizes of SSs available

STRATO-SPOOL No. 8   6.5" dia. spool, 22" long frame   holds 1000' of 50-75 Ib line, for kites pulling 10 Ibs or less
STRATO-SPOOL No. 16   7.5" dia. spool, 24.5" long frame   holds 1000' of 100-150 Ib line, for kites pulling 15 lbs or less
STRATO-SPOOL No. 24   8.5" dia. spool, 33" long frame   holds 1000' of 200-250 Ib line, for kites pulling 25 Ibs or less

That is the exact size of mine but I think this company has stated making a new and improved version of the Statospool but I don't think it's the same company that made them originally. It has an 8in spool and a 12in spool. I let my kite out and put a carabiner on the line and clip it to my anchor and clip out that reel then clip in my next one and move on to my next kite. Probably my favorite aspect is how easy it is to let the kite out by using the brake.

I should post some of my video's I've taken from my kite with an on board wireless video camera It's pretty cool. Can you post video on this site?
