One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

MELLOW YELLOW!

3D in front

Side X side

Not a real noticeable size difference, but it's the shape that makes the difference?

Plus ease of transport and a cool wing tensioning system!

I bet that I am the first to poke a hole in their 4D!

Trying to (excitedly) connect the upper spreader.

It is vented now...right?

I am going to resist the urge to say "Jeepersjoey!"

So much for resistance, I guess the Borg were right!

Wow! Is it bad? Maybe something you can fix with a dab of CA?

Noticible difference in the stand-off positioning, the 3D is 'old skool' with a far outboard stand-off and a single center, the 4D has them close together in the center like a modern kite.

Looking forward to all your opinions on the kite, I enjoyed it in the little time I spent on Steve's. We didn't have a 3D to compare it with on the field.

i don't own one of these, but if i did, i'd put a drop of CA glue on the wingtip tension line to lock it into place on the fitting before it slipped loose as there are no knots actually tied into it.

other than the aforementioned the new fitting on the wingtip works great. very cool innovation by mr. reed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there was supposed to be a 10" difference in wingspan between the 3D (48") and the 4D (58"). Maybe it's just old age starting to set in, but I was sure those were the dimensions. Well, from the pictures, it looks like  m-a-y-b-e  a 2" difference. So, is the 3D really 56", or is the 4D really just 50" ?

Well, Rob,
I didn't measure it with a tape, and the 3D is in front, but it honestly looked more to me like there was a 4-6 inch difference in total wingspan with both kites fully assembled and tensioned. (there is no adjustment on the 3D, as I'm sure you're aware)

And I wouldn't worry about your age there young feller Shocked

The bag really is impressive on the 4D.  I bet that darn thing added $15 to the price (retail).

Too bad it got thrown in the closet when I put the 4D into the big PRISM kite bag.

Oh well!

And...about the hole...it is an easy fix and CA will work just fine.

mine is probably going to stay in the case for now. It might end up in the Zephyr case after I get to fly it though... Cool

Glad the hole isn't bad, but that sure does suck on a brand new kite. Embarrassed

Now, I have measured both with the tape..........4$D came in at 58" and the 3# D at 55".

Rob, you are a very observant fellow - sharper than EVERYONE half your age Wink
