New Tech 125" Maxima kite

Hi, I was given a 125" Maxima kite and it's damaged.
To get it in the air I need to know the length of the upper 8mm carbon spreader to make a new one. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Yeh.    I did some work for a mate and he gave it to me as he couldn't be bothered fixing it.
Can't wait to get it into the air.
As I said the upper spreader is snapped and the end is gone and also one half of the bottom spreader is missing but have the other half to copy.
It has 120'  300lb spectra lines with it!!!!!!!  Yikes

If you measure your lower spreader, and then measure in the full-size version of the linked photo below, the upper and lower spreader, you should be able to calculate the upper spreader approximate size.

US = (US photo)*(LS)/(LS photo)

If you don't want to go through that, just assemble the kite without the standoffs and lay the kite on the ground, then measure the upper spreader connectors distance and cut a spar to fit. You'll be close enough on that old school big boy.

Hey chilese that is a great idea that I hadn't even considered. I've blown up your great photo (thanks) and will scale it out. I'll assemble mine and check to see if the length is close.
I'm off to the shed to tackle it now, so you can bet there will be no wind today!!

Got it sorted. The spine was at the front of the kite so have repositioned it and it's ready to fly.
 I machined up an 8mm fiberglass hollow rod on my lathe and reduced it in size to go inside the carbon rod. The finished rod looks like one piece with just a join showing on the outside. The top spreader only needed 55mm added. Had a 1000mm x 8mm carbon tube and used the full length to make a new bottom spreader.
Wouldn't you know it blew a gale as a cold front is approaching.

Hi Chook, The Maxima was discontinued and gone before I started at New Tech but Kelley Reed still flies his stack. If you PM me I'll send his email. He would be the best source for all things Maxima related.

Hey thanks for the offer Rob. How cool to work for a kite company!!
So the Maxima is an endangered species, I'll be carefull with it.
It's not had a perfect life with some small nicks out of the leading edges. I ran a cigarete lighter over a few loose thread ends to tidy them up and new shock cords.
You guys have been a great help.
