I'll get things started, my 2010 Skate by Focus Kite Designs arrived today.  The wind got nice and light (practically non-existent) after dinner, and I had a great time flying in the back yard.

Your yellow non-fandom status is still safe.   Wink

On the Skate colorizer, the center panel on the second Skate is "Gold"  which offsets the black and dark gray nicely.

On the Yellow front, I will confess that when Steve put up the Black and Yellow Mamba UL, I fell in bumble bee love Kiss with it.

Sorry to say, now that I've seen a few of the new ones, I like the old sail better.

Each to their own.... Don't want to speak for them, but I expect Paul & Hunter could probably be convinced to do the old sail for those with that preference.  The precedence is certainly there (Exile - Mira/Slice).

Albeit, at a higher price point, the Manta still runs with a minimalist sail pattern.

I'll speak for them. Smiley  When I first saw the new Skate, Hunter made it very clear that someone can still get the Skate in the "old" panel layout; you just have to ask for it when you order.

If it's a minimalist sail pattern you're looking for, check out the attachment.  There's no reason to make the center panels and leading edges separate colors, they can be done as one solid color with the trailing edge acting as an accent.

not a huge fan of many panels on this kite.....i was drawn to the simplicity of it.....

the real question could be:
does the panel configuration create different flying?HuhHuhHuh??

Thanks for the feedback.  As Jared mentioned, we can still make the classic Skate graphic for anyone who wants it.

We felt the Skate was due for a update and wanted to give some more options on the graphic.  The thing I like about the new graphic is all the options it allows.  You can have a minimal look like in the picture that Jared posted or you can jazz it up with more colors and is various arrangements like many of the customs you are seeing in this thread.

We welcome people to let us know what they think about the new graphic.  We need your feedback, good or bad.

Does the new panel layout affect performance?  In our testing we found that it still has all the glide but seems to be a bit more turny also.  So to us it is a win win.  More interesting graphic that allows for a classic look and a more jazzed up look along with improved performance.  To top it off we added the ability to fold it down to almost half the length for easier travel.

But as I said, we love to hear what you think of the new look.

Thanks for the feedback and support!

I think sometimes it's easy to fall into the trap that given  more panels, we should color them all, but your point in well taken.    Oh no.... more options  Huh

Almost without exception, every time I have visited my family I have been skunked for wind.  The ability to break the Skate down to such a small size played a great part in finally  pulling the trigger.... that and a long conversation with Hunter about the TE.
