I am considering one of these and was wondering what the main differences in flight performance is.
Any thoughts, opinions and experiences with either of these kites appreciated. Grin

i've been fortunate enough to have flown the black pearl, but not the genesis. so sadly, i can't do a comparison, but i'll say, the black pearl is a very nice modern european style trick kite. by that i mean (and i'm going to use my own vernacular here) it has wide legs, a short nose, and a deep turtle, but is very cooperative, not getting upset, when spanked.

Thanks for that fidelio. I have heard it is usually best to go with the newest
model because that will be what you'll want eventually anyway. Is the Black Pearl a newer model  than the Genesis?

Its a newer design, and from a very capable flier.  Wink

I flew the bp for a bit and enjoyed it. Never had the chance to fly the gen. But I'd go for the bp being a newer design. And I like the looks more.

Thumbs up for the Genesis.  I have a set (SUL, UL, STD) and fly mostly the UL.  Very nice kite and as you can see from video very capable.  Have only meet one Level One kite I didn't care for, can't remember name but several years old.  Would love a chance to fly the Black Pearl.  You may also take a look at the Jumping Jack Flash.  You can probably find a nice previously loved Genesis or JJF here in the states.  The Black Pearl may be a bit harder to find.

I flew a demo Black Pearl Standard a few times.  It is a fabulous kite that does everything I know how.  I never flew my own kites (Nirvana, Next, Silver Fox UL, and Insync) that well.  Take a look at the videos I posted on this Forum on Feb 8th, 2012.  Links are provided below:

If you google Black Pearl kites, on-line stores in Ireland, French, and Italy all sell them in both Standard and UL versions.  Good luck finding them and good wind to you Wink

Well, I think the main difference between the two kites is the sail layout.

With dimensions of 242cm x 93cm the Black Pearl is "stretched out", whereas the Genesis with a height of 105cm and a span of 227cm feels much "taller".

I find the Genesis floatier and slower than the Black Pearl, which performs better pitch-based tricks.

Furthermore the Genesis design is much older than the rather new BP.
