Winds haven't been smooth lately. We have had gusty conditions.  The Acrobatx doesn't like the gust and one side of the upper spreader keeps coming loose.  So far I have been able to land quickly so no sail damage is done.

Aside from changing the leading edge fitting or upper spreader is there anything I can do to keep it in place?

My Acrobatx UL has a collar cemented at the ends of the spreader which holds it in place.  Is this something I can buy?

Thanks,

Tom

Wrap electrical tape once around the slipping end.

Get some shrink tubing, cut a couple of One Inch pieces for either end of the spreader and hit it with a hair dryer. You want the ends to be flush with the ends of the spreader.

Or, just use some scotch tape.

Or.

Fly some of those nicer kites you own.

That'll do too.

Hey... all of my kites are nice.  Just that some are nicer than others.

If the tape doesn't work I notice the Prism repair kite has heat shrink stops.  Is that the same thing as the tubing?  Is the heat shrink tubing a hardware item or something that could be obtained from a kite store?

I have what you need Tom.  Drop me an email and I'll stick a few of those Prism Adhesive Heat Shrink Collars in an envelope.

You can use tape or shrink wrap is usually more permanent like others have mention but sometimes that's a bit too thick. In that case I paint the rod ends with finger nail polish. Keep adding coats until the desired thickness is reached. I have a bottle of clear so it doesn't show.

Peace
