I went to a 'vintage kite fly' this afternoon. Saw lots of club members who were around when I started in 95, some who I've not seen for a while and some great kites from the same era and before.
The wind was really light so I was blown away (groan) by how little wind some of the old kites like 311's, liteflites and Phantoms would fly in without the need for special fittings and wrapped tubes. They wouldn't do much more than fly, but that's how it was back then.
I had a fly on an M2, I'd forgotten how gorgeous that kite was, that had to be the most exotic thing there. There where lots of Rare Airs but sadly not enough wind for my Cheetah, various Highflyers etc.
It was interesting to realise how heavy handed I've become with modern kites and it took me a little while to remember how to finesse some of these old kites rather than spank them around.
Sadly I'm no photographer so no pics, just a nice trip down memory lane.
Thats all
