Have you seen "Bigfoot?"
Despite assertions to the opposite, "Bigfoot" doesn't really tolerate wet, cold weather, so I expect I won't see him for awhile. Wet, cold weather has been all we have had for a bit. I expect in the Spring months, when the siren call of Orange Cranberry Scones, and spiked teas are wafting on the air, I will see the big hairy lug again. Until then, I will miss long conversations on the porch about vintage movies and obscure music.

Not sure how that's relevent, but okee doke.

I see "visibly damaged pkgs all the time. 9 times out of 10 the box has a hole in it, but the contents is fine-the box is there to protect whats in it. If I RTS'd all the visibly damaged pkgs, whew- there'd be a lotta PO'd shippers.
Allow me to clarify. Visibly damageds is a Tri-Tube that has been snapped in half and than repaired in transit by one or two strips of Scotch tape. Hold it one way, and the sides are supported. Turn it, and the container flops askew as if there has been a lapse in its Viagra prescription.
I did not say RTS... nary a mention of it. However, a tag/sticker notifying me that the package was indeed damaged in transit makes the claims process easier for me WRT to the seller. Regarding holes, I would submit that the "fineness" of a package that had sustained holes is entirely dependent on the size and shape of the container. A predominantly flat package that has even a modest amount of holes in it where a museum, gallery or art dealer is obviously the sender.... well, someone's in for some disappointment. A box containing a server rack with a few punctures into dead air because it's surrounded in styrene braces, I would be less concerned about.
And as far as "beatin feet" what makes you think I wanna listen to you bawl me out for a pkg that is or isnt damaged. Either way their isnt a thing I can do about it right then and there.
UPS got rid of 1/3 of its managment last year. So the numbers and production are real important to my boss, and with GPS I really cant screw around like before.
Its a different company now.
As I would have no clue as to whether the damage was sustained in your care, why would I be bawling you out? Why do you think I would expect you to cure whatever ails the situation? As previously stated, notification of damage in transit just makes claims and returns easier. Some carriers have those tags/stickers and others I have never seen using them... and maybe they don't have them. Filling out something like that could be done at the depot or in transit, and would take no longer than a "Sorry, we missed you tag."
And the post office lost how many billions this year? I wouldnt expect the service to improve either.
As long, as they aren't losing mine, well... rat's furry and all that.
One more thing- styro peanuts end up all over the floor of my truck if you dont stuff the box with about twice as much as you think it needs. I hate peanuts.
I am neither a purveyor, promoter or proponent of packing peanuts. If you think they are a party in a crowded delivery truck, assume that when I receive a package they are just as much fun in an overcrowded office (as my office got merged with the IT store room in our last move). It's worse when I receive multiple such packages in a day.
End of my rant. Apologies if i offended everybody. Xmas starts early round here.
My original post never specified one carrier or another, I have had good and bad experiences with most. Wasn't offended, but your response certainly seems like I ruffled some feathers for which I apologize. The fact that Christmas is seasonal and spikes the delivery streams is a failing of man.
