Welcome to the GWTW Forum.

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Ever wondered?  “What would happen, if I changed something on my REV kite?”

What if you had the opportunity to test various Revolution products and directly compare competition proven modifications in side-by-side testing?  How does it feel?, 1 vs #4?,....and why?

What if various operational conditions were offered for you to experience?, as well as a skills coach in each arena?  All within footsteps of each other, on a grass field surrounded by a nature preserve.  We not doing it on top of Jockey’s Ridge.  Challenges, turbulence and swirling winds are promised, tight quarters and demanding expectations!  There will be specific exercises, timed-precision challenges, etc. but mostly it’s a chance to come enjoy some OBX fun with your peers this February over President’s day weekend!    (Friday 18th ~ Monday 21st, 2011)

3 settings will be offered, each with a different instructor, accommodating 8 pilots per session.

Lines, identical handles & all kites will be provided.   8 pilots working in unison, using the “shot-gun” starting method.  2 or 3 times per hour you will rotate into a new work-station, or in shifts (depending on the number of participants), as well as taking some brief notes of experiences.

field one:  “ Nod to Mods? ”
Compare 4 identical SUL leading edge sleeved 1.5 Revolution kites
each with a complete Race frame, using 120’/90# lines and no-snag handles
#1. factory stock bridle,     #2.  stock bridle with magic sticks added,
 #3. 1point6 bridle & magic sticks,   #4. French Bridle & magic sticks

field two: “ how fast IS simply too quick? ”
Compare 2 speed series kites on mid-length appropriate strength lines with no-snag handles,
or the precision challenge, a timed response, . maybe try out a 6-pack stack of Rev 2s as well?
This is the make up something cool and then share it with us all field!

field three: “ All conditions are acceptable! ”
Compare 2 no-wind specialty kites, the Zen vs 1.5 SUL.  Experience true no-wind & turbulence techniques on short lines with a coach guiding the testing.  Demonstrations of slack line, 3-D and one-handed tricking.  Explore the difference between excess weight and necessary mass.

We are not seeking new pilots, rather those of sufficient experience to truly appreciate this unique opportunity.  Housing is expected to be shared between participants and the “buddy system” is recommended.  Every person pays equally though, this one is about sharing, not compensation or extra recognition.  .
(A total fee inclusive of housing & event activities themselves has yet to be finalized, but our goal is a $100/per person).

We need a head-count to proceed,.... does this sound worthy of your time & expense?

How about an indoor session mixed in, as an added bonus?
We are trying to pull this off on Saturday night within a community center nearby.

Please let me know personally if you are interested.
Thank you!

it's shaping up to be a grand time,
looks like the total cost may be around a hundred bucks, including lodging (not in private suites with individual bathrooms).

I can't imagine a better deal, 3 days of kiting (everything is furnished, kites, line & handles, 3 separate work-stations and a coach on each one!)  Plus the indoor comp thrown in besides?

UPDATE:

Hey gang,
I assume everyone wants to work on improving their no-wind flying skills with a Revolution Kite.

I am honored to be involved with a clinic for Flying Smiles Kites in the Outer Banks (Corolla, NC).  They are offering a no/low wind REV clinic, taking place over President's Day weekend.  If anyone would like to join me with Cath & Elliott Shook now is the time to say so!

The cost including housing for 3 nights is only a $125 per person, but we need a "head count" to proceed with event sanctioning.   I have several commitments from folks interested.

You don't need any specialized equipment either, in fact everything, lines, handles and kites will be provided.  The objective of the clinic is so you can personally feel and compare different competition proven modifications in direct side-by-side testing under the guidance of a coach with only 1 variable being considered at a time.

Three workstation areas will be arranged, allowing 8 pilots to fly at once and every 20 minutes or so each of us will rotate into a new position.  We will take some brief notes on each kite and discuss our comments together in a group setting afterwards.  February 18th thru 21st, 2011.  I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
-Paul R. LaMasters
