Well, now that it's officially winter... I was wondering who's still flying ? The east coast is getting a fresh dump of snow, so I decided to get out before it got too bad.
Well, Happy New Year !

I got out just in time, the storm is promising to have a pretty good punch. You guys in New England are going to get it pretty hard, I think !
Good luck...

I just came in from flying a Gemini and Match Box.  Winds out of the north about 10 to 12 mph and temp is 23 degrees F.  In northern Michigan that is about the norm for winter flying.

art, where are you in MI?

I just got in from flying as well. Vented weather forsure. winds at about 15 gusting to 20 mph and 25 degree weather.
Good practice for high winds Smiley

I'm located in Mackinaw City.  Being from Michigan also, I'm sure you know what I mean when I say the "Tip of the Mitt".

50 MPH crosswind gusts on oatmeal snow over black ice .... it's never too late for your car to learn new dance steps... some of them quite eye-opening  Huh.

We lost power at work here in Richmond, Va on Monday. With 5-10 mph, 30F and snow on the ground it proved to be a pleasant experience.   Roll Eyes.  Hope this happens again sometime soon. As the sun set down it really cast a nice wintery red glow on my kite.

I found a great place to fly here in so. VT.......near where the West River flows into the Conn. River  Grin....out on large area of frozen water, where there are ice fishermen and skaters generally towards the opposite end.

Had a good day there with my Hypnotist practicing stalls, side slides, backflips, spins.....and of course many recoveries  Embarrassed

Temps were in the 30s with a fairly steady 8-12 mph wind...on ice with about 4-5 " fresh snow. Forget the dead launches...the kite would become a snowplow & begin to bury the nose into the snow with the least pull on the lines.  Cry

Had a great couple hrs, and can see this place as a good inland winter flying spot.....as it's very open area and perfect with the NW winds coming down the West River Valley.

at this point up in the PNW its either pouring down rain (rained non stop from 23-27 aka the days i took off) and when its not raining, and sometimes when it is, the winds are usually 8-10 gusting to 25-30 or more. Without a decently vented kite in my bag atm .... there is no flying for me.

tho today was apparently a nice day, however there was no wind... oh and it gets dark up here around 4:30 and I don't get home from work till around 5:45...

looking forward to a nice weekend coming up that might just grace me with a few hours of workable flying weather... here's to hoping *crossed fingers*

I hear you!

It has been pretty bad. Both times I was last out it was gusting to the mid 20s. The fun wears off quickly in that stuff - it's just physically not comfortable as well.

Tomorrow thru sun is looking good, however.  I hope to get out for a few hours tomorrow anyhow.

I went out at lunch yesterday. The temp was 39 and wind was about 10 mph. The astroturf soccer field was warm and I had on a hat, gloves, and light jacket and it was a nice 45 minutes. I'll probably head out again today at lunch.

I should come over to the west side of the city and try and meet up with you Jersey guys this year. Do you guys still head to LSP in the winter? It sucks that the city is such a big obstacle... it turns 2 hours of driving into 4.
