Welcome to the GWTW Forum.
Guests (non-registered users) can view the forum but are unable to post.  If you don't have anything to say then why would you bother to register?
One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

need a place to backup your data for free?

5GB of Online Storage for free:

    * Box.net: 5GB of online storage for personal use for free. Limit of 25MB per file, which is plenty for storing personal documents, Office files, saved game files, and digital camera photos. Files are stored online, so if your computer crashes or is stolen, your files are still available online.
    * iDrive.com: 5GB of online storage for continuous backup of personal files. No limit on the upload/download size.

would either of these be an option to pass along  large files?  just upload it and then pass along a username and password for someone else to download the files?

Box.net limits the file size, but iDrive does not. I use these sites when I upgrade/reinstall a clients computer, its quicker than burning, and I set the account in there name, then all the files are available to them/me down the road

These days it is almost as cheap to buy a 4 Gb thumbdrive (around $5) or two for that amount of storage.

Mozy - $4.95/month for unlimited automatic backup.  Or do about $55 for a year or about $104 for two years.  I have 1.7 TB uploaded right now.  It saved my bacon when my hard drive went bust a couple months ago.
