One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Average age is 14 mentally and 48 physically.  Blue eyes predominate.

Most kiters drink cheap beer also.  Also if anyone wants a copy of the spreadsheet send me a message with email and I will forward it.  I think my counting is about 95% correct.

I think I just realized that I am in the wrong line of business or golf is actually cheaper than kiting.   Some of your bags are more than I could ever afford to spend with multiple Fearless and other high-end boutique kites.

In my car, I haven't bought a bag yet:
Zephyr
4D
Silver Fox STD and UL
Mantis V2

My wish list includes:
Gemini
Saber II
Ocius
various mixes of STD, UL, and SUL.
Hmm thinking of my uncles golf stuff.  3 custom left handed drivers 1-3 wood at $1500 each, custom putter $700, set of titanium Irons $1800, custom PW and SW $300 each, shoes $200, IDiotic looking wardrobe about $1000, golf club membership $250 per month(paid for 4 years so $12000), hand made club bag $500 and and  UNknown amount in balls, tees and green fees for courses other than his club.  Figure at least $21,000 in 4 years.   Thats A LOT of kites Huh

I don't know, I have friends that spend $1000s on golf equipment, $10,000s on golf club memberships & trips... seems like a challenge to spend more on kites. Really, you could buy a piece of beach for what some people spend on golf...  Grin

In my case, annually I'm spending 10x the amount the amount on purchasing kites to travel to kite-related events.  Something that has not gone over well at home, I'm afraid Sad

Another stupid stat.  Average bag has 7.8 kites per bag.  Worse one was 23 kites.  Now that is a big bag.  Average bag worth is about $1400 based on $175 per kite.  That might be low. Now remember the people who participated are the worse of the bad.

Presently:
Inner Space (always)
C21 Extreme Prototype (always)
Cosmic TC Ghost
Widow Maker UL
Trident UL
Katana UL
Katana
Katana Vented (always)
Icarus
Opera
Quantum Pro
Mojo UL
Rev 1.5

Wow, it's been years since I logged in to the forum, but I had to stop in to give my appreciation to John for his keeping my kite in his "A" bag.  (Although I noticed recently that my Icarus has since been rotated out of the "A" bag... oh well.)

I still fly, but not nearly as much as I used to.  Of course, I have all different versions of the Icarus -- Super SUL, SUL, UL, heavier UL, STD, Half-vent, and Full Vent -- and I actually don't fly anything else anymore.  But I have my eye on Barressi's Kymera.  Looks like a sweet ride.

Thanks again John for your support.  I'm actually not entirely sure where the other dozen or so ended up, but I'd love to find out if people are still enjoying them.   I guess I should be thankful that they're not all sitting in the Swap Meet section!  Smiley

Dude. Where have you been?

Ahhh, well, life got in the way of kite flying, I guess.  Been busy at work, at home, with the kids, completed a renovation of the house, etc.

But I still make it a priority to get out and fly on my birthday and on Father's Day.  Anything else is just gravy.

I've also started playing tennis again, so that occupies most of my free time.   Getting back in shape after 15 years off the court was rough on my aging body.  But the hard work over the last 5 years was worth it -- I'm playing better than I did when I was 18.

Anyways, kiting is interesting once you "master" the basic movements -- my muscle memory hasn't really deteriorated at all over the last few years, even though I haven't been flying much at all.  I can still do all the tricks I used to do, without any noticeable decline.

I'll probably be around for a little while, but you never know, I might just disappear again without warning.  Smiley
