Haven't flown a kite in many years. Found my old stunt kite in the garage. Beautiful weather. Want to take it out and fly it. Discovered the upper spreader is missing. Can I fly it without damaging it? What are the risks?

Hi. Some people actually fly without the US to reduce weight on very light winds. If the wind is high, I would not fly it as it could cause some damage to your kite.
Good luck.

I fully appreciate the ability of trees to attract kites. They have special powers that way. (Quote by - Charlie Dunton)

The kite won't fly the same without it.

Some kites are OK without it in vey low/no wind, some not.

On most kites in normal or high wind the sail shape and overall balance of the kite will be different without the upper spreader, so it my fly poorly, or just very different than it should. Not so much of a risk to the kite, though some will come apart more easily in a strong wind or on impact without the additional structural component.
