Walking downwind (line management)

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

Windshield wipers is my name for them, since I don't know what everyone else calls them. Essentially, they are just extended cascades with some ground pass left in between the half axels, with walking forward and sideways to add sail pressure. They are a lot easier to do for this old fart that gets winded 270 degrees through a 360.

I think windshield wipers is a great name, it's easy to picture.  Being new to the industry, I'm learning there are lots of names for the same thing.  Just tonight I was watching Prism's FSPDVD and remembered their term for a flyaway is a downwind glide.  Is there a thread yet on synonymous trick names, both proper and popular?  Just curious..

Try to practice down wind glides whenever possible.  Like RonG said, if the kite is pointing downwards, you're walking forward.

The down wind glide is just the same as your airplane, go too slow and you'll stall.   A nice slow down wind glide will allow you to make up a lot of ground.

I usually try to take big steps rather than small ones. It's easier to stay in control that way. (at least for me)

Down wind gliding will teach you a lot of 'nose away' control. The more nose away control you have, the better, especially in light winds.
