One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

 Not kite related...or is it?
While pre-stretching my kite lines yesterday....I noticed this interesting Moth on the ground....still alive but fluttering its wings..

I then noticed that a yellow jacket had a death grip on the head of this beauty.
I flicked off the yellow yacket.
Carefully picked up the moth...grabbed my camera...and took a few shots before it finally crossed over into MillerMoth heaven

What beautiful SKY LAUNDRY a kite design this would make?
Any one know what kind of Moth critter this could be?

That's a hawk moth, group of gorgeous moths which hover like hummingbirds when they're feeding from flowers. I'm not familiar with the American species, so I can't tell you exactly which species it is, but it looks very much like this one:

Yes...That looks very much like the same hard luck moth. I found a similar one on google, however your photo looks to be more accurate.

I checked out your "KITE BAG" photos...and I couldn't help but notice your TOL NORTH SHORE RADICALS!
INSTANTLY CAME TO MIND!!! my long time good friend and co-worker ROB SCRIBNER who I am sorta responsible in leading astray this young man into  a life long addiction to kite team flying...SO MUCH SOOOO...he and his wife and his wife's brother started a little kite team called "THE CUTTING EDGE KITE TEAM" (THE ORIGINAL ONE)

It was less than a year before he quite his HIGH PAYING MANAGERS job at The Boeing Company in Seattle....started his first little kite shop on E. Hill Kent Wa.
and then was one of the first ON LINE KITE SHOPS in the country.

It was too long after that...he packed up his beautiful wife Sherry and his neat kiddies and started up...the ORIGNIAL CUTTING EDGE KITE STORES in  Ocean Shores Wa...
and then later on...Packed up and moved to BEND OREGON and the rest is history..

I checked out your "KITE BAG" photos...and I couldn't help but notice your TOL NORTH SHORE RADICALS!

Those NSRs are not original TOTL kites, but both come from Cutting Edge Kites. The black one was ordered just before they closed shop, so I got one from the very last batch, it seems. And as to Ron Reich, my wife and I are now working on a routine to music which comes from one of RR's books. The world is small, as they say!

Not sure of the various species of caterpillars/moths available in the northwest, but those moths are what I have seen called a tomato horn worm or tobacco horn worm.  I actually had one as a "pet" during my entomology courses in college.  Hawk moth or sphinx moth is an appropriate term.
