i guess this means in zero gravity ... no one needs a cushion. speaking of space, it looks awfully blue and billowy through those windows. how can anyone claim nasa wastes money when they don't even have someone photoshoping some stars in this picture.

such a disappointment, look at all the room left to put more buttons and switches. someone get the engineers back in here!

btw - did you guys catch the stowaway with the blue striped shirt & train conductors hat?

srysly tho yalls, i'mma miss the shuttle big time.     space x is still several years from service, and capsules just aren't the same. there's an invaluable psychological difference for the public between seeing astronauts 'rescued' from the ocean and lifted onto a boat by crane versus stepping from an impressive vehicle in view of the public, striding confidently across a runway as if they just conquered all of space.

What I liked, mixed in among all the shuttle's control systems, was the Dell laptop velcroed to the console.  Wonder if that was standard flight equipment?

What a fantastic machine it was despite all the budgetary compromises and having too many spoons in the pot. The original designs I guess were for something much smaller and it wouldn't have needed those problematic ceramic tiles. Then it turned into a truck which it never should've been for most of it's missions, sort of like driving a Peterbuilt to the corner grocery store. I wonder why with all the designs and tests of smaller fly it home vehicles we can't get something capable of carrying 4-6 people into space to service the space station etc. and a heavy lift vehicle for payloads that aren't returning. It was actually folly to risk lives flying the shuttle to deliver satellites into orbit that could've been launched on unmanned vehicles.

I hope the new direction works out and that NASA continues with research & development and it's program of helping transfer the technologies it's developed into the private sector. NASA is one of the few area's our government invests in new technologies and works with private industry to create new products. It's hard to quantify such things but I've long been convinced that we've reaped more through the space program then we've invested.
