One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Huh?

Are you talking about the $250 Zephyr with the case that is now $200 without the $50 case?

If not...where is this announcement?

Huh?

Are you talking about the $250 Zephyr with the case that is now $200 without the $50 case?

If not...where is this announcement?

The announcement is in the header of the Prism Forum... to the right of the header block that lookes like:

When the Zephy originally came out, some folks liked the case and some folk complained about it (and to some extent the how it added to the cost of the kite.  So in 2011 when the Zephyr goes with an expandable sleeve and drops the price.  So some people will grouse about the kite no longer coming with the moulded case.

It's kind of cool that Mark has been able to retain any hair.

Are we really going to ding a kite because it only comes with one lineset instead of two?  Huh

Somewhere prairie  dog burrows are caving in from all the underground laughing.

Laughing Prairie Dog

The announcement might be a bit misleading as it is referring to the 2011 pricing which has been in effect for months now.

Given the economy, it's not hard to suss out why the packaging/accessories were changed to provide a more attractive price for folks who might be curtailing some of the kite purchasing practices.   Not entirely surprising given how long some killer kites have languished on the Swap Meet.

BARE BUTT BOTTOM LINE THEN?Huh?

The price of the kite remains the same...EXCEPT FOR ALL THE "TAKE-A-WAYS' that were part of the original deal.

THANKFULLY (HOPEFULLY? Wink) THE QUALITY AND THE KITE ITSELF REMAIN THE SAME?

Hummm?
Kinda sounds like LESSON LEARNED IN MARKETING FROM THE AUTO INDUSTRY ....where you can buy a stripped down version of a SUPER SPORTS CAR FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS LESS..n' all that jazz? Roll Eyes

ACtually comparing the 2011 zeph to my early zeph the quality in some respects has improved.  Better TE material and a few other small details that were annoyances on the early Zeph's were improved.

CA Ike did a good before/after (2010/2011) review of the Zephyr here

If anyone actually sat down and compared changes in cars over the year, I suspect the comparison wouldn't hold. It's always been a two steps forward and one step back proposition for cars.

  • Plastic Headlights that haze over
  • Single color taillights
  • Sintered metal door handles (always fun in the winter)
  • Radios tied into the power locks receiver
  • Plastic sunshade arms that droop
  • Harder and harder to do your own lightbulb replacements
  • Cheaper and cheaper jacks
  • Plastic TPMS bodies tied to aluminum shafts that corrode and need to be replaced when they fuse to the rim ($200+ a set)
  • Cast rims replacing steel and machined rims
  • Ridiculously oversized, low aspect ratio tires that required beefier suspension and increase road noise
  • Doors that freeze shut in the winter and strand elderly folks out in the cold

Quality is job #43

Sorry for the rant and apologies to anyone in the auto industry.  So much common sense has been carefully engineered out of cars in favor of buttons and flashing widgets.

And mileage claims...  Cheesy  Cheesy

That is for sure.....
Our Fancy little WOLFSBURG IN SHEEPS CLOTHING 2008 Jetta has been found on road dead numerous times...plus the plastic interior knobs...seat latches breaking and falling off...  burns over a quart of oil every 3 thousand miles..plus 89.00 or more for each oil change..and constant burnt out headlights, taillights and interior lights. ETC AND THE BEAT BEAT GOES ON AND ON!
and now ready for a HUGE AND COSTLY $1200.00+ tune up that must be made or our 100,000 mile warrenteeee' is toast!
GADS! U ARE RIGHT ON...PRISM KITES STILL SEEM LIKE A GREAT KITE FOR THE LONG HAUL....and seem to hold up better than the majority of kites in my overstuff kite bag.
