One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Great flying Devin. I'm very curious about this kite since I like my Widow Maker set a lot. I have a few questions though..

  • How is the low wind range of the Solus Standard, say compared to the Widow Maker STD? Big winner in the WM STD for me is how low of a wind range that it can handle
  • The UL looks like it has quite a fair amount of mass for rotational and pitch tricks. How is its low wind range compared to say a Widow Maker UL?
  • How turtle biased are both kites? Are rising turtles and 2 pop yoyos doable?

Thanks
-Darryl

Hey Darryl, thanks for the kind words and the interest in the Solus. Smiley

Honestly I think the pitch based tricks are about the same on the WM and the Solus standards, but the UL Solus outshines the WMUL for pitch if I had to pick one. Again, both are fantastic kites.

The UL is the same frame as the WMUL (2pt LE, 3pt LS, p100spine) with just 1 gram of weight extra (in the tail). Yes its a bigger kite, but you have more sail area so even out just a little more weight with the longer tubes. I think they're the same. We flew the UL with no tail weight in 1mph on 50# 75foot Skybond on wednesday and it was doing just fine. Novices were flying it. Also capable of one pop roll ups withOUT the weight.

Honestly I've never bothered to try a two pop roll up on either kite. Because the kites do a one pop I think it's a bit pointless to do both, and both kites will roll up multiple times with the 1 pop technique. I just never bothered to see the point in trying them. I'm sure it's possible. Like I said in the other thread, if you're happy with one you're going to be happy with the other. Once you get used to the lighter inputs, you can switch back and fourth from Solus to WM very easily.
