Folks, sorry for the late announcement, but there are some up and coming festivals for your consideration. Here's one this weekend:
The Montpelier Wine and Kite Fesival is coming up on May 2nd and 3rd in Orange, VA. The festival is held on the estate of President James Madison. The event is not an official WOW event (that is, the club hasn't taken this to AKA for sanctioning (insurance)), but it is one of the events that WOW has been attending for at least 7 years and the Orange County Chamber of Commerce really enjoys having us there. The event is a fun fly, with a large area set aside for the kite flyers, and kite making for the kids. This year, there is one change...the Chamber of Commerce has arranged with one of the local private schools for us to have assistance in the kite making so that our members have some relief and can have more fun actually flying and teaching others how to fly. Hopefully, this will make the festival more enjoyable for all involved!
The festival runs from 11am to 6pm on Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sunday. There is housing available, as well as some money to cover travel/meal expenses.
If anyone is interested in attending/participating, please contact Jim Hodges as soon as possible at 703-201-0060 or
jjhodges@aol.com.
Additionally, gang, I'll let ya'll know that other festivals/events up and coming around our region are:
First Sunday Fly, Washington Monument , May 3
Atlantic Coast Kite Festival - Virginia Beach , VA , May 1-3
4th Annual Quetzal Kite Festival - Fluvanna , VA , May 16
Wildwood International Kite Festival/East Coast Stunt Kite Championship, Wildwood, NJ, May 22-25
And of course, more on the heels of those. I'll try to keep ya'll updated as they come.
Further, an update on the webpage: Still haven't overcome our issues getting access to make updates. I hope to shake something loose this week, but if I can't get it done, we'll probably "down" or suspend the site until we can get it worked out. Not to worry, I will keep on doing my best to keep you updated as best I can via e-mail and forum postings.
