Welcome to the GWTW Forum.

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Saw this on Facebook. I believe this is "action jackson" who was a power kiter active on the Forum in the past. A real shame.

American Kitefliers Association   Please be careful out there. Such sad news:

News of Charles Jackson's (assistant manager of Kitty Hawk Kites in Rodanthe) disappearance while kiteboarding along Hatteras Island yesterday is deeply troubling for the entire Kitty Hawk Kites family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. As the search continues, we're all hoping for a miracle.

I thought he lived in Houston, working for TransStar. He was big in the DBBB event on Galveston Island during Thanksgiving.

AJ moved to Hatteras Island from the Houston, Texas, area.  He had been an assistant manager at the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Rodanthe for about a year.

The update is: The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search Monday at approximately 7:30 p.m. for a kiteboarder missing near Hatteras Island.

I never met AJ, but he was great to have around the Forum from time to time. A real kite guy.

While it's always a shame and seems like a waste when someone dies from an accident, there is a certain peace that comes from knowing he was out there doing his thing. Compared to getting hit by a bus, its a great way to go.

It appears as though his body has been recovered.  As sad as this tragedy is, I am at least grateful that his family will be able to lay his body to rest in the manner he deserves.
