Welcome to the GWTW Forum.
Guests (non-registered users) can view the forum but are unable to post.  If you don't have anything to say then why would you bother to register?
One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Gone ... don't tell me there was anything of value???
I am inviting new people to come to the forum and will continue to invite over the next week or so leading up to the "Grand Opening".  Kind of easing into the whole thing.

Search any kite you currently own or thought you might buy and there is lotsa content. Sometimes content you couldnt find anywhere else.  Example: psycho therapy; thoughts on rebridling a psycho and framing.
Ok maybe you could find it elsewhere. and yeh it is old skool.
I guess for that matter any mod to any kite
how kite x compares to kite y

Things that i believe will become the focus here:
"I'm new here how do i '____'?"

All of the above has value, maybe just the 'signal to noice ratio' will be diffrent here.
How much have you serached the old forum? Yeh there is lotsa 'stuff' to wade thru but at times there is good stuff.

And so my 2nd post on the New Forum will be about the Forum. We talk about ourselves a lot. It's tradition.

Even with all the crap left in, the rec.kites archive has been a great historical record of the early days of modern sport kite flying (it corresponded with the rise of the Internet). In other words, it's a record of kiting in the '90s.

The Old Forum is one of the best records of kiting in the new millennium. We can strip out website discussion and other non kite areas. Probably good to dump the Swap too. Getting rid of all that stuff would make a much leaner DB that would be much easier to search on. Disabling image links would probably be good too. Over time more and more links go dead anyway.

Steve is talking about the initial posts to this forum having gone bye bye.. what's what with the old forum content... seems a number of people are willing to take a swing at that.

I must confess, it would have been a blow to lose it. There is quite a load of useful info in among the rest of it.

Ah Allen.. another night owl, another tradition.. Smiley

Things got a bit ...  since everybody knew it was a test period. There was nothing of value except to Steve, which was the idea. I think the suggestions and his choices have been mostly positive & hope this gives a new start without the headaches.
