Although not official, there are a number of Infinity UL's in existance. Some people think the Infinity's colour scheme is a bit boring, I found this picture of  custom made one that certainly isn't!!   Huh

I like it. If you switched the yellow panels to black then it would of been my custom colors.

I think the original Inifity's pattern is dull. Not boring but dull.
What I mean is that the shape and pattern is nice but making it all in dark greys makes it look heavy and ... dull.

I think that making it more whiteish would make it look lighter, more agile and more lively.
Also, of course, adding colour such as in this case.
Nice colour combinations!
Don't you think this one looks lighter and even faster than the usual one?
Cheers,

N.

Thanks for the picture. looks great.

I love my Infinity. I can now dream of a colored UL.

Wonder if Santa makes this in his workshop?

Well.....I know from the German forum that several UL's exist, either modifed standards or custom UL's built by (I think) either Michael Koopman ( the designer) or Matthias Franke. I've no idea how much these would cost...but.  There was an interesting thread on the HQ Forum last year ( before it was closed) where myself and another guy raised the prospect of an official Infinity UL. Reading between the lines it sounded like HQ had had some UL sails made and were testing them, in fact there was a suggestion that it might be possible to buy a sail that you could frame up.

I'm waiting with interest for the release of the 2012 HQ catalogue as again I've heard a quiet whisper that there may be a UL in there.

Another, more subtle UL.

I'd definitely be interested in an Infinity UL! Slightly more subtle than that fluorescent one wouldn't be a bad thing for me. Will keep my eyes peeled on the forum here, on the 'other side', and on the HQ-Invento web-site.

Heard from Matthias Franke (Scirocco Kites in Germany). He said that HQ is not planning to bring an UL Infinity on the market, but that custom UL Infinity kites can be ordered from him, for 285 plus shipping.

For me, that's too high a price, but maybe of interest to others?

Damn, I could really have fancied one if the price was right! Angry Though I'm sure you'd get a quality kite from Matthias it really is too much. Shame that HQ didn't have the conviction in their product to bring out their own, I'm sure it would have sold.

Actually it probably wouldn't be that difficult to convert a standard to UL spec ( Not SUL).  The standard isn't exactly light weight, but will fly down to 5mph fairly easily so you would only need to 'gain' another 2-3mph.  If it were me I'd take the standard sail, replace the heavy duty LE dacron with something lighter, rebuild the nose to lose that 'truck tarpaulin' and replace with dacron, maybe get rid of the mylar wingtip re-enforcements.  Get rid of the weight system - it flies better without it anyway. Together with a reframe in something like 3PT and I think you would be getting pretty close. All I need now is a cheap secondhand infinity..... Wink

Me too.

This may be the only option. I contacted HQ by email about buying just a sail so I could frames as a UL but was turned down  Sad

Got an e-mail from HQ just now, confirming that there will be no UL Infinity in 2012.
