One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I got a vector kite bag that has painted nylon. I was wondering if anyone knew what the correct paint to use on painted nylon is.

Don't know what they've used and I would suspect if it's the branding you're talking about it would be a screen printing process which isn't really classified as a paint.

But Design Master paints work well on Nylons, they are available at most Hobby & Craft stores. Scott Hampton does some amazing work with Design Master Paints, you can see some of his work by following the link on the right to Windswept Kites and head into the Aerial Art section.

You can use Acrylic, the secret is mix it with GAC 900 (50/50) so it stays flexible and adheres to the fabric.

Hey Cisco, thanks for the information! I have questions rolling around in my head about the process:  Don't you have to heat set it after painting? If so, the temperature has to be pretty hot, right? How do you prevent the fabric from melting?

I was still curious about this heat-setting issue, so went to the source:

There is a lot of good information about this product on this page.... and it turns out you only really have to heat set it if you want to launder it and if you want a softer "hand," meaning if you don't want it too crispy. With kites, that's probably a non-issue. Heat setting is still probably a good idea, though, to make it a more permanent dealie.

Toward the bottom of the page, here's what it says:

• Iron for 3-5 minutes with a medium-hot iron on the reverse side (side opposite of the application). On delicate fabrics where lower heat levels must be used, a longer ironing time will be necessary.
• Professional Oven Cure for 1-2 minutes at 300F; 4 minutes at 250F.
• Clothes dryer: Commercial: medium-high temperature for 20-40 minutes. Household: high temperature for 40-50 minutes.

When ironing our poly's or nylon's use an ironing cloth or thin dish towel over it. I have directly ironed on it with no problems before, but Rhonda hit some of a newer batch last summer and it deformed from the heat. She said she was below medium heat which should've been safe. Thankfully it was still a loose panel we had done some applique on but hadn't been sewn in yet and she noticed the damage occuring on the edge before getting to the part we would be using .... whew .... she usually starts things in the middle
