I'm going to build a new set of LSs for my Nirvana FX. It has G-Force lower spreaders now which weigh the same as Nitro Strongs. I'm looking to get it back to stock type weight LSs, stock are P200. So my options are:

P200
5PT
Or some of the new SS P2X spars

What would the advantage of 5PT? Anyone switch to 5PTs and feel it was an improvement?

I've seen a big difference switching the weight of lower spreaders on kites but haven't really swapped str to taper except on total reframes so the impact was hard to qualify.

Thanks

Just to confuse you even more  Roll Eyes

Or standard Nitro's, they are the same weight as P200's or within 1/2 gram like the 5pt's and you get the added benefit of being able to tune a bit by where you cut it. If you want a really stiff spreader cut the small end, if you want to retain more flex cut the max allowed off the large end (4"?) then finish with the small end.

It would seem the tapered rods would be lighter at the small end which would decrease momentum in spins but allow quicker acceleration, another trade-off where the effect would be so slight few could discern it while many may profess it

Also the increased flex at the small end of a 5pt won't hold as much pressure on the stand-offs which may change the curvature of the leading edge (not much on the Nirvana though since it's pretty striaght).

Nitro's would just confuse the situation (me) even more. Plus I don't have any Wink I thought I remembered reading that some swapped the P200 for 5PTs on the NFX & I was curious if it made a real word difference. I originally planned on using 5 PTs but I didn't want to cut down the spars & find out I should have gone with straight.

I'm too lazy to type the details of 5PT vs P200 on the Nfx.  Just call me on the cell or trust me and go 5PT.

Other kites about the same size as the Nfx with P200 LE's and 5PT LS:  Deep Space, Mohawk XS and Tantrum.
