One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

Hi all!

I have been keeping myself away from the forum for three weeks because I knew I would want to start flying again before I was fully recovered.  Tongue

Three weeks ago I was flying my Soul and on taking a step back on bumpy terrain I pulled my calf and had a hamstring injury...   Cry
At first it didn't hurt so I sat down on the grass and then it really started to hurt! I had to phone my wife to come pick me up with her car and take me to the hospital.

So I guess it is a good idea that we all do some warm-up of our legs, back and arms before starting every fly session to avoid these injuries (boy I had played rugby, squash, football, tennis and other sports and had never gotten injured...!)

What was worse was that I had just repaired my Soul from the broken LS and I was flying really well with excellent wind and only ten minutes after starting, CRACK I heard the sound of a braking branch...

BTW thanks all  for the tips on fixing the lower spreader and gluing the ferrule correctly! It worked sweet!!!!   Cheesy (old line, CA glue and heat-shrink tubing -> perfect!)

BUT, today I went to fly again! Yeah!   Cheesy   Smiley    Cheesy

And the wind was pretty good and I had a ball!

Cheers,

N.

Glad to hear you're well and back flying. By the way, this post qualifies as an entry to the general discussion thread "you know you're a kite flyer when..."   Cheesy

In your case, you know you're a kite flyer when you have a kite flying-related injury. Go ahead. Flaunt it!

Thanks Lee S, I just now followed your suggestion and posted on the "You know you are a kite flyer..."

mikenchico, I don't get the Purple Kite thing...
... perhaps I'm still not a real kite flyer yet...

Cheers,

I wondered where you had been. Good to hear you are on the mend.

I think Mikenchico might be referring the the Purple Heart Medal awarded to US Military personnel wounded in battle.  The Purple Kite must be our equivilent.

Oh! You're probably right about the purple kite!  Cheesy
That's great mikenchico!

And I must say I'm really honoured.  Smiley

IM pretty new to kiting but i have def had my fair share of kite inflicted pain. Embarrassed

The sudden lunging back and forth can get quick dangerous..ecspecially if there is snow and ice on the ground. I seem to fall alot harder than i used too haha

Not to mention the common hazard of backing up into things at full speed whislt arms are flailing haha

Good to hear your back bud! Cool

Seems the older we get the further the ground gets away. I know my shoe's seem further away when I tie them in the morning, I was sure I was still growing because the scale kept going up too, but the doctor assures me I'm still 5' 8".

 Sad

LOL   Cheesy

Also, a quite popular pirouette seems to be that of skidding forward on the wet grass while giving sudden slack to enter a fade...
...all of a sudden you see the sky in front of you and you realize you are lying on the grass   Cheesy
