just returned from our fantasic weekend of speedkiting.

The full result listing will come in the next days, but for a teaser, the top 3 of the class 1.

1. Michel: 188km/h Tiger 2 Mylar TS
2. Tom: 183km/h Gargomel 20
3. Andre: 181 km/h Scalpel

Indeed,
a lot of very high speed runs in the send half of the contest.
And boy 3 minutes can be really long if you have to fly such a missile on strings precise across the radar. And they don't pull a little either,

You must be flying like this for the whole 3 minutes...

What sort of lines do you fly with?

And also what wind speeds generate those kite speeds?

Well,
the flying time is setup like this:

You have 8 minutes total time to get a measurement in, how you are spending the time is basicly up to you.
But once you call the IN that you are ready for measurement, you have 3 minutes flying time up to the total time of 8 minutes.
So in theory you can spend 7 minutes 45 trying to get your kite into the air and do a single pass in front of the radar and be done with it in the 15 seconds you have left. However that is not a wise move since winds change and you want to get as many runs in as you can to maximize the change for a guest in that right moment.

Most people fly Liros lines since its the most direct one, with the smallest diameter and it can be spliced. Strength depends on kite and wind of course..

We had top winds at slightly over 40km/h during the top speed runs, but good speed kites get into the 3 digit range at about 10-15km/h winds.
Of note here is that kite speed does not scale linear with wind speed, much more effective in the factor speed/windspeed at lower wind speeds then at higher windspeeds.
