Hi all,

I would like to suggest you a tool which allowed to design a stunt kite.

http://www.petithomme.be/cv4/index.php?post/2012/04/20/outils-d-aide-%C3%A0-la-conception-d-un-cerf-volant-2-lignes&navlang=en

in this excel file you can find Ian's reflexion about the balance and some key values to design.

Please don't hesitate to give me your feedback about tool.

Looks promising but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.  Just added it to the list of things to check out.

There are many reasons why your spreadsheet hasn't garnered more interest.

1 This Forum is more kite flier than kite builder. Yes, we have several people
who build kites, but most of us just fly them.

2 Not everyone has a spreadsheet program.

3 Your spreadsheet contains macros, which I avoid, regardless of the source.

4 Many people start with a kite design they like and make mods based on how
they want that kite to alter its habits.

5 Some of the purists may want to keep hold of a notion that kite making is
more of an art than a science.

6 Have you tried the Kite Builder's Forum for feedback?

And on a personal note, have you put in factors from known designs (Nirvana, TNT, etc)

to see how closely they fit to the program?

I use spreadsheets on a regular basis, and while the program appears straight forward,

the use of macros and my own resistance to building will keep me from looking into it.

Thank you for posting.  Smiley

It looks an impressive piece of work  Cool. I wont get time to explore it properly until the weekend but I'll have a better look then.

John - the macros didn't do me any harm in Libre Office.

Hi chilese,

I understand your explanation.

For your information, you can use this without macro.
The macro is just here to export datas.
All calculation are directly into the worksheet.

thanks a lot for your response

I grabbed it once I found the download link  Sad   When I got the macro warning I did a quick scan with MS Secuity although it would've scanned the download, checked out clean.

Can you say if it works in the MS Works spreadsheet and Star Office or other compatible programs for those who don't have Excel? Maybe Google Docs?

I was interested because you state that it has some input from Ian on the effects of design changes. But I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet either.

I hope you guys don't mind I've taken the liberty of splitting this thread and stickying both. Theyre both great pieces of work so its a good idea to keep them at the top where people can find them easily.

Thanks Cydonia and Doug  Cool

Not sure but you may have to enable macros. Also, it's possible that your version of Excel isn't compatible with the version used to create the file....  especially if your version of Excel is older. Try the macro-thing first, though.

Hi,

Excel 2000 is not compatible with this version.

I work on a second version of this tool. I will give you directly the second one with good extension.
