Got out a Sandpiper UL. It had been waiting patiently in the

kite closet for several years. Upon assembly, the Center-T

and one of the LE connectors split open. The spars are

non-tapered 3P with the reinforced ends. I have no spares,

although don't need one presently.

1 Where can I get 3P spars hopefully?

2 What is the best type of connector to use as a replacement?

Thanks skb™.

I had a low profile center-T which snugly fit the ferrule.

I had forgotten about the reinforced ends of the 3P, which

increase the OD significantly.

Got a little give to the spars. They flex fairly easily.

The connectors that are on the kite now are not APA.

Don't have a photo.  Huh

I am currently out of the low profile, "beman-style" T's but have sourced some and should be here soon.
Also I checked for 3P's and did not find any yet ... I have another box of "odd" rods to go through.  What length (approximately) would they need to be?
APA D's should work as LE connectors.

Looks like stock 32.5" rods Steve.

Thanks for looking.  Smiley

These fittings, which may not be original to the kite, are not the ones you showed.

They look like 2 straight black tubes joined at an angle to form the " T ".

Skyshark 3P spars should be identified with a purple ring of tape near one end. Exel made some size specific fittings (centre Ts, nocks, etc.) and even moulded them in a suitable garish colour to match. I have a little store of them if you would like to return it to time warp condition. I think I might even have some of the LE fittings of which you speak - as I recall they are simply impossible to move once installed due to a large contact area with the LE.

I might have some 3P spars left too but I doubt it by this stage.

Either way... I'm away from home for two weeks by which time you may be sorted already.

Mike.

Thank you for the spar offers.

I don't need the spars. I just don't have any spare spars

in the 3P size.

Thanks for looking. I'll just get the APAs and fly the kite awhile.

Allen was always my go to guy for fixing a kite I tried to fix.  Roll Eyes

My Sandpiper UL has pink fittings. The wide hard plastic center t I'd only ever associated with pultruded sticks. Works well with the reinforced ends on the 3Ps, no ferrule needed. A rare fitting on a rare bird.

Speaking of Sandpipers, Chris Matheson has been very active on Facebook lately and getting nostalgic over old photos and new of his kites. Maybe he'll get back in the game?
