Prism 3D upper spreader wear

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

I've had this Prism 3D for a couple years now, using it rather lightly, but over time the upper spreader and the spine have worn a small hole in the sail.

According to this page, this is a common problem. If I had been on top of it, I would have reinforced the area (front and back) with tedlar, as recommended. But now that it's a hole, would there be a better approach?

Could I glue a diamond patch of dacron tape over the front of the sail? This would at least obscure the hole. Do the same on the back, or use tedlar there?

Sorry, I've never done a sail repair before, so I don't really know what I'm doing.

A small diamond of Insignia cloth would work fine. I think Steve here has some ripstop repair tape available, it's  lighter then insignia cloth and maybe preferable on the 3D but with a piece that small the weight difference is negligible. Insignia cloth & repair tape are both adhesive backed already so you won't have to muck with glue. Using Tedlar on the back sounds good so you don't have to line up two colored pieces.

Mikes advice is good.  Personally I would use Tedlar to repair the hole first then use the dacron patch over that.  IF you ever have to remove and replace the dacron you will have less chance of tearing the sail with the tedlar repair in place.

best thing i see is to keep flying it...that is not going to make a difference..and will wear out again.....just fly it....not a high stress spot that will cause problems either....
