One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

A sad day indeed.  Jim will be missed.  He was a staple of all kite festivals, local fun flys, and KP since I can remember.

RIP.

So sad to hear of Jim's passing.

Those who had a chance to meet him in this life know what a terrific guy he was.

Looking forward to seeing him in the next.

I appreciate everyone posting up pics and memories.. Jim brought me into kiting about 15 years ago and it was with him- through him that Jim, Vince mcMillian and I were able to put on the Merced Kite Festival so many years go.   Although some of the details should remain private, know that Jim passed away doing what he loved most, flying kites at the lake...

How many times have I flown kites with Jim? Shared a beer with Jim? Shared an old story with Jim? Received obnoxious emails from Jim? I cant count. He's one of my favorite kite guys.

We were the last two people on the beach the Monday after Kite Party this year. Mugging for Dano who was on the Reno end of the Beach Cam up on the pier.

Two weeks ago he filmed me and Mike flying our Thors.

Smooth winds my friend.

Right in the middle of my KP6 video is a nice section of Jim flying a black and red Rev stack.

So VERY sorry to hear the sad news!

...Difficult to believe that one of our KP smiles has disappeared from sight... though like the invisible breeze, I'm sure he will always be with us.

FYI (message I received re: Jim Strealy)

" My name is Mike Strealy. I am the nephew of Jim Strealy (OzoneJim). I'm contacting you because I saw that he was a facebook friend of yours. I am sorry to tell you that Jim passed away early this morning (Saturday). He apparently had some kind of accident while flying out at Lake Yosemite. He somehow fell in the water and was not found for 30 ...minutes or so. He was revived but later passed at the hospital. I know how much he loved kite flying and liked and respected the whole kite flying community. Please pass this information on to any that you wish. You can also contact me if you would like more information.

So very sad. There's a dark corner in the sky tonight. I will miss him deeply.

I remember the first Merced kite festival. We had Jim, Rob, Brian (Champie) Dave, Me, and a few other of the Northern CA bunch I can't remember. No one really knew what we were doing, so all of us had maximum fun. Another great Nor-Cal tradition revolved around the Berkeley kite festival. After an hour or so of watching demos, the hot place to be was in the dog patch, hangin' at Jim's truck, flying Revs and drinking beer. Kite festival? Nah, I came to hang with Jim. I was even the trigger man at San Ramon on the famous candy rig a couple of years. It had been great hanging out with him the last couple of years at KP.

Smooth winds, Jim. I'll fly one for you soon.
