Welcome to the GWTW Forum.

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

As we all know...like our kites, time flies. Thus, I'll post this now.  Cheesy Don't forget the Berkeley Kite Festival. If you've been previously, we'll see you there. If not, it's a must for all kite enthusiasts. Really big kites of all types, 'normal' sized kites...heck, even some really tiny ones too. Kite manufacturers Revolution and Prism will be there...You can fly any of their latest and greatest kites with their reps. Bay Area Sport Kite League is having an AKA competition. (How do they make a kite do that?) Kite building for the kids. Oh yes, and don't forget the candy drop for the little ones and the inflated jump houses (What do you call those things?). Plenty of food and drink for all. Enough said for now...ya gotta go!!!

Berkeley Kite Festival this weekend.  This will be my first visit.  Any tips or places to be, how about parking?  Limited parking in the Marina but will likely be at Golden Gate fields and take the shuttle.

BKF hints from years past:

Parking changes a bit each year. Pay, if you must, to get as close as you can if you plan to bring many kites. Get there early. In my experiences, parking options rapidly go down after 9 a.m.

Get in a Rok battle if you can. Do the early one if possible. If they are still doing 2, after the first one almost everyone wants to do it, and any later battles are hard to get space in.

Eat unusual food. Sure, there's a burger truck and a burrito truck, but with huge lines too. My favorite used to be the sushi and udon truck, although they weren't there the last time I went.

Witness at least one candy drop. It's hilarious.

Walk over the the "dog patch". (that's what I call the un-groomed portion of the park on the far side of the festival, beyond the fences. You'll probably find at least a couple of GWTW forum members there.

If you can swing the time and finances, do the Sunday dinner cruise. (assuming you're there on Sunday) You'll be hanging out with some of the "who's who" of the kiting world. Silent auction is cool too, if you're not completely financially tapped out.

Sunscreen!

Have fun, and take pictures,

Lee
