One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Am looking for sources for common kite-building parts, including spreader connectors, stoppers and other items.  Where do you get your parts, for repairing old/damaged components?

One of my older kites, from mfr TOTL (Top Of the Line, since gone out of business), has spreader connectors that have disintegrated with age.  They are made of molded plastic, but they've fallen apart on me.  So, currently, I have no way to attach the spreader spars.  As well, the standoffs have lost one of the pair of vinyl stoppers that hold the standoffs in place on the sail.

Am uncertain of the specific model of TOTL kite, as I didn't write that part down when I purchased it (duh).  Purchased through Into The Wind; great vendor, by the way.  It's got a fairly nice frame of Sky Shark 3P competition spars, so I'd like to get it back into play.  It's a fairly good-performing kite, able to handle heavy winds well.  The 3P frame seems up to the task, if my flying through the air for a dozen yards is any indication (back when).

List of damaged/missing components, otherwise in good condition:
  • The upper spreader's connectors along the leading-edge spars are the ones that have disintegrated.  Were made of molded plastic, I'm pretty certain, though I don't particularly care what material these get replaced with.
  • The lower spreader's connectors along the leading-edge spars are also in bad shape, and I'd like to replace those.  Molded plastic, I think.
  • The center connector looks fine, for the lower spreader spars.  (Made of alum.)
  • And a couple of the vinyl stoppers on the standoffs are missing
Any help you might have would be appreciated.

BTW, I do not have any real kite/building tools or skills.  Am looking for finished parts that I can put together relatively easily, if such things are available.  I'm sure I'll need to measure the spars specifically, to know exactly which connectors to get.

Newbie here.  Glad that I found this forum.  Nice range of topics.   Smiley

Welcome to the Forum.  Smiley

You would be helping to support the forum if you

purchased from one of the excellent sources on the right.

A Wind Of Change
The Kite Shoppe
Into The Wind

I am most familiar with the first, but have purchased with
no problems from the other two.

You could phone all three to get a feel for what they have
before ordering.

Originally, I purchased the kite through Into The Wind.  Didn't know of the other two you mentioned, there.

Thanks for the vendors.  I'll keep in mind the "supporting" relationship of the ones you listed.  Am always interested in helping out, in such ways.

And thanks for the welcome.  Now ... off to measure my spars and to find what I actually need.  Hm.  Missed a nice windy day, today, though.  Am still pouting over that one.  Oops.

Post a picture of your kite and I'd reckon at least 5 people can have it ID'ed for you within an hour.
Then you'll have more information when you call in for parts.
