Hey fellow kite addicts,

Anyone know anything about this Q-Pro design?

clickable

I picked this up in trade this weekend @ Berkeley Kite Fest from a fellow flier.  I have never seen this color/pattern before though.  I did find something about a custom fractal for the BKF but it was different colors & a UL.  Unfortunately someone decided to get artsy on it with a flo yellow marker, but it's not too bad.  Everything is there, just needs some minor TLC.. couple APA's need to be replaced and possibly a lower LE.

If anyone knows more about it, let me know!

thanks,
  Mike

Quantum Pro Fractal

IMG_6347 by groundeffectimg, on Flickr

Images below belong to John Chilese (much like 99.44% of the other kite images on the web  Cheesy )

The fractal images were dye-sublimated onto the sail.  There were a number of patterns over the years and several BKF special edition fractals.

I think at one point Mark said he misjudged the cost of the dye-sublimation process so in many cases the kites were underpriced.

Thanks Sam. You saved me a lot of posting.

According to Kent, there are a couple of large piles

of finished Fractal QP sails in the Prism warehouse.   Huh

Truly a wonderful all-around sport kite and available

in all the different wind categories. A shame it was

under appreciated.  Sad

Thanks all.

I figured John would have some pics of them.  Cheesy  As always, great photos.

Now I'm curious what year this one was.  I'll get some more close-up shots later today.  Trying to decide if I should attempt to remove the markings or just leave it alone.

All of our fractals are marked 2005........There must have been a ton of them at one time............here's four more...one of the fractals is from Berkely (the gray-charcoal one) and of course two Berkeley Rainbows.........

Do I dare attempt to remove this?  I thought of trying some Goo Gone.

Then again, it's hard to notice from 75-100 ft. away so maybe I should just leave it alone.

Can you put black over it? maybe try flo yellow on some scrap material and then apply black-maybe a sharpie, there pretty handy and
a new one has a nice fine tip for detail. hey just a thought* before you do something you might regret. good luck.

1 Leave the markings alone, unless it's bleeding.

2 Did you get an upper spreader?

3 Are there just yellow cable ties on one side?

Hey John,

1.  Gotcha.  So you're saying the markings make it worth more? Wink
2.  Yes I have an US, was flying on a really low wind day so took off the US & weight to see how low it could go.
3.  Yes, one side has yellow zip ties.  It's custom. Cheesy  No, actually I was inspecting the LE's on the right side so had to cut off the yellow ties.  It now has black zip ties as that was the only color I had, I just need to inspect the other side now.

Marker is a good idea, but I'll probably just leave it be.. it's difficult to even notice from far away anyway.

thanks,
  Mike

I would like at this stage to introduce you all to a particularly extreme Anglo-Saxon swear word.... but I suspect our gracious host would be upset so I'll restrict myself to Belgium and leave it at that.

I quite appreciated the QPro, paid for a better-than-stock-looking custom version and bought what was advertised as fractal but turned out to be rainbow 'cos the seller couldn't distinguish between the two. When you read the word "fractul" at The Other Place it is in reference~tribute~mockery to/of this episode.

I'd pay for a new fractal QPro is Prism had the wit to offer them for sale.

Mike.

There is no signature or date? Somebody must have removed that also  Sad

I'm pretty sure all the specials were marked, Prism also used to make a run for WSIKF, I know those were marked and dated. I don't recall though if the Q-Pro's were ever done in the fractals or just rainbows. It's been many years since the last WSIKF Special, but it was a Q-Pro.
