One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I'm about to be moving to the north shore of Long Island for school. Any other fliers near northern Nassau county? Any good areas to fly?

Easy - Sunken Meadow State Park.

Check out Asbury Park (North Beach) on a weekend but leave those 100' lines at home. Bring 50' and 60'.

Room & Board - Free assuming you bring a Saber II SUL for me to try <BG>.

The wind on the north shore is pretty good, lots of nice smooth wind days. The beaches are for the most part pretty narrow and full of hazzards (rocks, dwiftwood, beach grass) The south shore beaches are much nicer. In the off season there's no admission charged to any of the beaches, and they're empty.
I live ~30 miles east of where you'll be and I'm not familiar with your most local beaches, but as ABPJ said, Sunken Meadow is good if the wind's out of the West, North or East. It's about 20-30 minute ride from where you'll be. At low tide, it's a pretty wide beach.
There aren't many other local kite fliers, more over in New Jersey & Connecticut. I'd be more than happy to meet up for a fly sometime if you get a break from your studies. Good luck with those !

Jones Beach, Field 6, to the left of the concessions building.

Good for anything from the South.

Robert Moses State Park, good for the same.
