One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Almost no one at the beach.. I like it that way.   Grin .. Just me sweatin to the oldies.  I was there for four hours.  After I ran out of memory.  I suddenly realised I have been doing my half axels wrong.  Near the end you start to hear the sail pop.  I spent about an hour flying right to left and poping the sail like Mama74 video on half axels.  Got strung out on the popping sound... I worked it yesterday but no video..  Finally doing it properly and now I understand why my cascades were not cuting it... video coming soon...

wokrkin it

just me doing my pracitice routine...

The half axel is the only trick I have down. I also learned it from Martin's video, but I can't seem to turn it into a cascade. I think the "pull" or "lift" to return it to flying position from the pancake needs to be a second, smaller pop? If I've interpreted others' comments correctly. Unfortunately, my week at the beach was unproductive. The wind was not working with me.

Your half axels look good, in both directions. However, on the right side of the window, you do a goofy-looking thing with your right arm that I don't see you doing on the other side. Far be it from me to criticize something that works, though. I've only got one (maybe two, if you count an unreliable axel) tricks in my repertoire.

Martin's video was great for me. When I got out and tried it, it just clicked. I had good wind that first time, and I was doing half axels in minutes. It's supposed to be a gateway trick. It opens up the slot machine, taz, cascade, two-point landing...but for me, I can't seem to turn it into those. I wish I had the dedication (and a place with good wind) that you have.

This is torture you know.  Cry Cry Cry   At least water board me for awhile...  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I started to take me time as the day went on.  Near the end I tried to stay in one spot.  I keep watching the video..Your so at ease with it.  Your Fades make me  Cry Cry Cry

I'll get there...

On the Half Axels ... That weird thing I do on the right is what I am not doing on the left side.  When I do I lay the top wing back and pop with the other hand.  The kite sort of stops turns and rotates .  The sound come from popping the air out by dropping the top wing back and popping the lower wing.  I flew yesterday and did it.  I'll make a small post of it...

It also takes a step forward each time...  I'll video it tonight at the Fly ..

Vert, keep it up(pun intended LOL)Maybe not try so hard? do not get frustrated HAVE SOME FUN  Red, What worked for me is- I started getting my 1/2 axles closer and closer together. working torwards the  center of the window.Lighter winds helped (,although it is also easier to pull the kite out of the sky LOL)you really need a consistant and smooth 1/2axle that you control the speed of

My interpretation of the half is that one needs to make an instantaneous (into the full flare back out in the other direction) turn.  That's why it's also called a kick-turn.  In light winds after it heads back in the opposite direction from whence you started, you will usually have to power the kite back up by stepping back or using the arms to maintain kite speed.

Work's for me, but everybody's different.

Your are right. That sound and rotation is what you want. As you get better you will even get the sail pop in light winds.

keep on practicing. Your turns will get sharper all the time
