I'm new here and this is my first post, glad there is some people still into kites as I was about ten years ago. I haven't had kites in a long time. My last kite I got really good with was the force four, so needless to say I am used to flying BIG stuff. I took a trip to the beach and found myself going to the old kite shop and was talked into getting back to flying. So I picked up an impulse 1.3, the second I got it in the air I fell in love with flying all over again. Well where I live in the mid west we don't get that many "good wind" days. So on a spur of the moment thing I bought a Desire UL off of ebay. I wanted something to fly when there wasn't any wind for anything else. But what little I've found these kites are very fragile and break easy. I won't be doing any major tricks with it but am still worried I'm going to break something. Any one had any experience with this kite that could help me out?
I cannot disagree with you more on the New Tech Desire UL. I've had a pair of these kites for a number of years, they are my go to kites in lower wind range up to 15mph (Yes I have flown them past their recommended wind speed with dual tails and have never had anything break.)
IMHO these kites are very strong for what they are intended for and if set up and flown correctly, will last you for many years of enjoyable flying.
The biggest mistake most people make with these kites is not putting the lower spreaders into the T connector properly. If not done correctly your kite WILL break and it's NOT the fault of the kite. I'm just saying!
These are awesome kites however they are NOT designed as a true trick kite, more for precision team flying or for flying multiples in the lower wind range.
If you are looking for a trick kite, the Desire UL is NOT the kite for you. There are many much better UL true trick kites out there, if that's what you are looking for.
Unfortunately these wonderful kites (Desire UL) have been discontinued and replaced by the IMHO 'inferior" and very dated looking Paladin UL by New Tech, at a much higher price point (almost double the price)and will never live up to the quality of the Desire UL it replaces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rbvIm4wgno&index=3&list=PLE96E302DDFB61EED
